Questions About
Registering a Domain
Yes. You'll need the EPP (authorization) code from your current registrar, and the domain must be unlocked. Per ICANN policy, a domain can't be transferred within 60 days of its registration or last transfer. See our domain transfer page for the full process.
Yes. You can register a domain on its own and point it to any hosting provider, or add hosting with us later. Managing your domain and hosting in one place makes setup easier, since our support team can configure nameservers for you.
Most domain registrations are completed shortly after your order is processed. If you're pointing your new domain to a website, keep in mind that DNS changes can take up to 24–48 hours to fully propagate worldwide.
If .com is available, it's usually the safest choice since it's the most recognized top level domain. Country extensions like .us, .ca, or .in work well for local businesses, while extensions like .tech, .blog, or .legal can describe what your site is about. Many businesses register several extensions to protect their brand.
Nameservers are responsible for serving your domain's DNS. In the case of a shared hosting account these will be provided to you. For reseller accounts you have the option of using the ones provided to you or registering your own private nameservers. For VPSs and dedicated servers you'll need to register nameservers before they can be used for your domain.
If you use an external DNS provider such as Cloudflare this is where you'll enter the nameservers they provide you.
On your My KnownHost panel page you'll be presented with a form to update the Registrant, Administrative, Technical, and Billing WHOIS contact info. If you have domain privacy enabled on your domain this information will not be public.
Domains can be controlled through the My KnownHost panel. When logged into the panel click on "manage" next to a respective domain to be presented with the management options for it.
Yes. Domain privacy protection is included free for life on all eligible domains registered with KnownHost.
No. Our listed prices apply to new registrations, transfers, and renewals alike, so there are no surprise price increases when it's time to renew.
Domain registration requires accurate contact information for the domain owner, including name, email address, phone number, and mailing address. Make sure your email address is current, since important notices such as verification and transfer emails are sent there. With WHOIS privacy enabled, this information stays out of public view.
